A Bit Of Laughter, Just What We Need!

If you have every watched the show Funniest Home Videos I am sure you have had a laugh or two in family life today. What a great program to be able to sit down and watch with the whole family. Somehow even though there are reruns watching these funny episodes still can make you laugh right from your belly too!

I sometimes wonder if people realize that others most likely get hurt in some of these videos, the ones that we are laughing at. If you take notice you will see that it is sometimes impossible for them not to get hurt. But, all in fun, we laugh and enjoy because some of these circumstances are unbelievable, or just seem to be plain stupid.

Now you have those videos that are just really funny and no one gets hurt. The commentator makes the show I must say however, whether it is about a wedding, pets, children, or whatever the commentator helps move things along and gets us all laughing.

Sometimes I don’t understand why some of the clips don’t win compared to those that do, but when you take everyone’s impressions and average them out that is what you get. If you really watch it is almost predictable who is going to win.

What a great show.

Time to laugh right from the belly that is what we need.

So thanks for Funniest Home Videos are in our family life today. Enjoy!

Game Night at Our House

When my children were in elementary school I remember one evening for some strange reason our TV wouldn't work, no sound. As things were a little tough at that time we were unable to take it for repair. How weird no TV!

So trying to be creative, I had an idea of starting a game night. Every Wednesday evening after supper and when everything was cleaned up we all would gather round the table and to play a table game. It seemed quite unnatural at first but once we got into it, it became so much fun. We always made sure everyone participated, though that was the whole idea.

Why not try it? Pick one night of the week, turn everything off, some soft music in the background is okay, and everyone gather around the table and play a game. Of course, it doesn't have to be a board game, any game is fine. The idea is to keep it going every week at the same day and time.

It is great for family life today as you get to spend quality time with your loved ones and it is a time to laugh which is good for your body health. You may have a bit of a struggle getting everyone together for an hour or two at first but keep to a specific day and time each week and it will be so natural before you know it and everyone will thank you for it.

Guess what? Well, after about a month we took the TV for repair. Would you like to know why it wouldn't work? My son apparently found a nail and put it in the little hole where earplugs would go. That's why no sound would come out.

Sure was a good thing to happen though, that quality time is so important in family life today.

No Blues On Laundry Day

Most of us have one regular day we do the laundry. To take the Blues away try mixing it up a bit. Try these tips. You may find you will have the opportunity to do something with your family you normally would miss out on doing.

  • Pick an alternate day to the one you have now to do laundry and switch from week to week. This will give you time to do the things on that day that you were not able to do before.

Don’t try to do everything on the same day – split the chore in two.

    • One day - remove stains, soak soiled clothes, mend clothing that need buttons, etc. and sort the clothing for wash day.
    • On the second day - wash, dry, fold and hang clothes and put away.

How to sort clothes:

  • Separate by colour and fabric.
  • Keep all whites together, all medium colours together and all black or dark items together
  • You will probably need a load for very lightweight items, light and medium colours can go together, read labels.
  • Be careful with deep colours like reds, dark colours and blacks. These will most likely run in water so they need to be washed separately.
  • Sometimes it is only the first time they are washed that they will run.
  • Read the washing labels on the clothing items. It will tell you if you can:
    • Wash in tub (machine) also temperature or if it needs to be washed by hand.
    • If you can dry it in the dryer or if you need to hang it to dry.
    • If ironing is needed and it is safe to iron.
    • You must read label as some labels will say Dry Clean Only or Hand Wash Only.
  • Whites can usually be washed in hot water, however many people wash everything in cold water to save on energy.
  • Buy appropriate detergent for hot or cold water. Cheapest is not always the best as some are not good on stains.
Get the whole family involved with different tasks. You will see your family will learn from the experience and also it will give you all more time to have together to do things in family live today.

  • Check the sale papers and/or Internet flyers of the stores you are interested in before you go to shop to see what is on sale.
  • Make list of items you require that are on sale.
  • Make list of the items you require that are not on sale.
  • Decide where you will shop.
  • It may not be worth it to run around to many different locations so make sure the savings are worth while.
  • Check dates on flyers for start and end dates of sales.
  • Don't forget to take your coupons with you.
  • If shopping for groceries make sure you eat before you shop, otherwise you may buy items just because you are hungry, not because you need them.
  • If shopping at a store that doesn't provide bags, take your own. Reusable bags are better and no recycling. These hold a fair amount of product.
  • Check prices with scanner if available to ensure you are getting the right price. This is the price that will show up at the till.
  • If no scanner check cost of item at till on check out. Make sure you are getting the sale price. Items don't always get inputted in computer correctly according to sales flyer.
  • Watch signs with prices above or in front of items. These do not necessarily apply to that particular item.

Read the signs carefully.
In your family life today have fun shopping!

Some Tips to Prevent Identify Theft For Your Family

When we go grocery shopping we normally pay with cash or more commonly our debit card. It is an easy way to shop in family life today. We use it at most other stores also if we are not using a credit card.

Here are some tips that can help you to prevent identify theft:
  1. If you want to use your debit card change your PIN number every 4 to 6 months. As most of us will not do this or will not remember to do this, number 2 is probably the better option.
  2. Buy everything (where possible) with a credit card. Pick one card or get one new card so that you can use it for everything you normally would have used your debit card for. In this way you get your bill every month and can now pay the bill in full (as you would have used your debit card anyway).
  3. Extra benefit - You get to see how much you are spending on each thing so it can give you better financial control.
Keep this in mind in family life today.
