Before you go shopping take note of the following tips. They can help you save time and money for you in your family life today.

- Check the sale papers and/or Internet flyers of the stores you are interested in before you go to shop to see what is on sale.
- Make list of items you require that are on sale.

- Decide where you will shop.
- It may not be worth it to run around to many different locations so make sure the savings are worth while.
- Check dates on flyers for start and end dates of sales.
- Don't forget to take your coupons with you.
- If shopping for groceries make sure you eat before you shop, otherwise you may buy items just because you are hungry, not because you need them.
- If shopping at a store that doesn't provide bags, take your own. Reusable bags are better and no recycling. These hold a fair amount of product.
- Check prices with scanner if available to ensure you are getting the right price. This is the price that will show up at the till.
- If no scanner check cost of item at till on check out. Make sure you are getting the sale price. Items don't always get inputted in computer correctly according to sales flyer.
- Watch signs with prices above or in front of items. These do not necessarily apply to that particular item.

When we go grocery shopping we normally pay with cash or more commonly our debit card. It is an easy way to shop in family life today. We use it at most other stores also if we are not using a credit card.

- If you want to use your debit card change your PIN number every 4 to 6 months. As most of us will not do this or will not remember to do this, number 2 is probably the better option.
- Buy everything (where possible) with a credit card. Pick one card or get one new card so that you can use it for everything you normally would have used your debit card for. In this way you get your bill every month and can now pay the bill in full (as you would have used your debit card anyway).
- Extra benefit - You get to see how much you are spending on each thing so it can give you better financial control.
